EPISODE 4: THE HORDE - PART ONE: ARRIVAL

Part One – Morgoth

Adam had wandered away from the dinner table, feeling surprisingly moody on this warm, late spring evening.  Cringer at his side, he journeyed to a small, isolated garden that he often used for his transformation into He-Man.  Adam sat down on a bench and Cringer curled hugely at his feet.  Adam's eyes curved upward to the stars.  They were bright and plentiful tonight.
He laid back on the bench and let his mind drift.  Worry throbbed in his brain.  His knees felt weak.  His muscles, though not as numerous and large as He-Man's, were tense.  Adam, staring at those endless stars, knew in his heart that something terrible was about to happen.
"Adam?"
Her voice came to him on a gentle wind.  He smiled.  Their relationship had been going well.  He had, for quite a while there, considered heavily revealing to her his greatest secret.  Adam decided to squash that idea for now, but had a small bit of guilt now.  How much longer could he keep his secret from her?  How much longer could he go without telling her he's He-Man?
"Hey," he replied, blue eyes filled with stars.
"Thought I saw you slip out here.  What's wrong?"
"Nothing."
Teela sat on the bench and put a hand on his chest. "Liar."
He smiled.  She lay down next to him, one leg on his, head on his shoulder and looking up.
"There are so many of them," she said quietly. "Sometimes, it seems like we're too busy fighting to really turn our attention upwards and gaze at this wonderful sight."
"Yeah."
He wanted to tell her just then that he was having dreams.  Nightmares.  Perhaps even visions.  Hordak . . . Despondos . . . that blonde-haired girl . . .
"Adam?"
She pulled him away, her green eyes looking down on him.  He smiled.  None of it mattered right now.  In this instant, none of it mattered . . .
"Look at that!" she then said, pointing in the eastern portion of the sky.  A great blue group of dazzling light was arcing across the night sky.  Teela smiled, delighted.  But for some reason, Adam felt his stomach drop.

***

Zodak could sense it.  He tossed another Snake-Man aside and looked to the sky.  As the other Snake-Hunters engaged the small clutch of Snake-Men, Zodak stared unblinking behind his helmet.  That was no shooting star.  It was exactly what he and the Sorceress had feared.
Zodak!
The voice of the Sorceress filled his mind.
"I'm on it."
Zodak then leapt in the air, his chair intercepting him.  He sped after the shooting star, leaving a perplexed yet victorious group of Snake-Hunters behind him.  Zodak raised his staff as he neared the bursting blue energy.  It roared above him, a zooming mass of blue energy speeding along.  A subtle, dark object sat underneath the front of the energy.
Zodak retrieve what looked like a small, white gun.  But when he aimed and fired, the blast was monumental.  An orange beam rocketed outward and struck hard against the object.  The object shifted a bit, but remained.  Zodak was about to strike again when a large pulse of green light flared from the center of the object.
The gun was rattled and then exploded.  Zodak veered off, hand smoldering, but his glove had protected him.  The object was sailing deep into the Dark Hemisphere.  Zodak knew exactly where it was headed.
He picked up speed , staff raised, helmet on, sigils bright on his dark skin.  The object's blue energy began to thin out and Zodak saw a black sphere, bearing markings of the Horde – the great crimson bat.  It started to make landfall right as the ruins of Hordak's' ancient fortress came into view.
Zodak threw his staff and hard.  It collided with the sphere, resulting in massive explosions.  The staff returned to his hand – just as another green pulse shook him.  His chair was blasted apart and Zodak went tumbling to the ground.
He watched as the sphere crashed just at the edge of the ruins.  He walked towards it.  The sphere opened, then, and revealed a tall, towering occupant.
"Morgoth," whispered Zodak.  As a Cosmic Enforcer, he was aware of the many warlords that existed throughout the known universe.  Morgoth was among them, mostly based in sorcery.  This was the worst case scenario.
Morgoth stepped towards the ruins, but Zodak's staff suddenly struck his neck.  He spun around as the Cosmic Enforcer rushed him.  Zodak's hand to hand fighting skills were of little use when fighting a tall creature like this.
"A Cosmic Enforcer?  Here?" questioned Morgoth. "We were not made aware of this."
"Get off this world, Morgoth," Zodak responded. "Releasing Hordak - "
"- Is the will of my master, Horde Prime," Morgoth responded.  Zodak shuddered. "You of all people know its no good to question him."
"End this.  Now."
Zodak rushed towards Morgoth, energy fuming from his staff.  He was about to plant it right into Morgoth's chest – when a ferocious burst of white light bombarded Zodak, sending him back, his body smoldering.
"Too much . . ." Zodak whimpered.
"Hordak's arrival is imminent."
And with, huge bands of energy went flying out from Morgoth's hands, wrapping around ruins of Hordak's fortress.  These bands soon began a massive crimson dome that let out large burst of energy.
Zodak stood up and watched.  It had been too much.

Duncan sat alone in the workshop, tinkering with a few weapons here and there.  It was well after midnight, but he was feeling unusually restless this night.
Man-At-Arms!
"Sorceress?"
He saw the image of her in his minds eye.  She looked panicked and scared, as though someone was threatening her very life.
"What is it?"
Hordak has returned.  The portal to Despondos is opening and all of his forces will be arriving soon!
One of my favorite episodes of the "New Legacy" series. I loved writing this episode and Boo's art was ON FIRE. Great synergy.
